U8  6v6 Rules

Law 1 - The Field

 

A.     Dimensions: 

       The field of play shall be rectangular, its length being not more than 70 yards nor less than 50 yards and its width not

       more than 50 yards nor less than 30 yards.  The length in all cases shall exceed the width.

       USYSA Recommendation:

       Length:  60 yards     Width:  40 yards

 

B.    Markings: 

      1.  Distinctive lines not more than five (5) inches wide.

      2.  A halfway line shall be marked out across the field. 

      3.  There will be a center circle with a six (6) yard radius. 

      4.  Four corner arcs with a two (2) foot radius.

      5.  Goal area - six (6) yards from each goal post and six (6) yards into the field of play joined by a line drawn parallel

            with the goal-line.  There will be no penalty area. 

 

C.   Goals:

      Maximum: Six (6) feet high and twelve (12) feet wide

      Minimum:  Size of hockey goals

 

Law 2 - The Ball

 

The game ball will be a size 3. 

 

Law 3 - Number of Players

 

A.     Maximum number of players on the field at any one time is six (6).  One of whom may be a goalkeeper.

       USYSA recommends that should a goalkeeper be used, that this position not be the responsibility of just one player,

       but all team members take turns playing this position.

 

B.      The maximum number of players on the roster should not exceed twelve (12). 

 

C.      Substitutions:

       1.  Injuries

       2.  See LAW VII 

 

D.      Playing Time:  Each player SHALL play a minimum of 50% of the total playing time.

 

E.       Teams and games may be co-ed.

 

Law 4 - Players Equipment

 

Conform to FIFA with the following exceptions:

 

A.     Footwear:  Soft-cleated soccer shoes or tennis shoes.

 

B.      Shin-guards:  USYSA recommends - mandatory.

 

Law 5 - The Referee

 

A.     Registered Referee

 

B.   Associate Referee

 

C.   Parent/Coach or Assistant

 

D.     Referee's decisions on points of fact connected with the game shall be final.

 

E.       All rule infractions shall be briefly explained to the offending player.

 

Law 6 - Linesman

 

Use club linesmen.

 

Law 7 - Duration of the Game

 

A.     The game shall be divided into four (4) equal twelve (12) minute quarters.

 

B.      There shall be a two (2) minute break between quarter one (1) and quarter two (2), and another two (2) minute break

        between quarter three (3) and four (4).

 

C.       There shall be a half-time break of five (5) minutes between quarters two (2) and three (3).

 

USYSA recommends that parents/coaches substitute between quarters to ensure that all players present play a minimum

of 50% of the game. 

 

Law 8 - The Start of Play

 

Conforms to FIFA with the following exception:

 

A.     Opponents must be six (6) yards from the center mark while kick-off is in progress.

 

Law 9 – The Ball in and out of Play

 

Conforms to FIFA.   

 

Law 10 – Method of Scoring

 

Conforms to FIFA.   

 

Law 11 – Offside

 

There shall be no offsides.

 

Law 12 – Fouls and Misconduct

 

Conforms to FIFA with the following exceptions:

 

A.      All fouls will result in an INDIRECT FREE KICK with the opponents six (6) yards away.

 

B.   The referee must explain ALL infractions to the offending player.

 

C.   No caution or ejections shall be issued to players except by independent neutral Referee.

 

Law 13 – Free Kicks

 

Conforms to FIFA with the following exceptions:

 

A.      Shall be classified under one heading - INDIRECT.

 

B.   A goal may not be scored until the ball has been played or touched by a second player of either team.

 

C.   No kicks shall be taken by the attacking team within the defending team's goal box.

 

Law 14 – Penalty Kicks

 

No penalty kicks are to be taken during these games.

 

Law 15 – Throw In

 

Conforms to FIFA with the following exception:

 

A.      A second throw-in must be allowed if the player commits a foul on initial attempt.  The Referee must explain the

       proper method before allowing the player to re-throw.

 

Law 16 – Goal Kick

 

Conforms to FIFA with the following exceptions:

 

A.      Goal kick may be taken from any point inside the goal area.

 

B.   Opponents must be six (6) yards away from the ball.

 

Law 17 – Corner Kick

 

Conforms to FIFA with the following exception:

 

A.   Opponents must be six (6) yards away from the ball.

 

 

USYSA Recommendations

 

Opposing parents/coaches and players should shake hands after each game.

 

Parents/coaches, non-playing players, parents and spectators should be located not less than six (6) yards from

outside the touchline nor should they be closer than 20 yards to the goal line.  No individual should be allowed to

run the length of the field except participants of the game.

 

Parents/coaches should not coach or instruct players during game time.

 

No alcoholic beverages will be consumed or allowed near the playing area.
