U10 8v8 Rules Law 1 - The Field
A. Dimensions: The field of play shall be rectangular, its length being not more than 80 yards nor less than 70 yards and its width not more than 50 yards nor less than 40 yards. The length in all cases shall exceed the width. USYSA Recommendation: Length: 80 yards Width: 50 yards
B. Markings: 1. Distinctive lines not more than five (5) inches wide. 2. A halfway line shall be marked out across the field. 3. There will be a center circle with a eight (8) yard radius. 4. Four corner arcs with a one (1) yard radius. 5. Goal area - six (6) yards from each goal post and six (6) yards into the field of play joined by a line drawn parallel with the goal-line. 6. Penalty area - fourteen (14) yards from each goal post and fourteen (14) yards into the field of play joined by a line drawn parallel with the goal-line. Penalty mark is 10 yards from goalline.
C. Goals: Maximum: Seven (7) feet high and seven (7) yards wide Minimum: Size of hockey goals
Law 2 - The Ball
The game ball will be a size 4.
Law 3 - Number of Players
A. Maximum number of players on the field at any one time is eight (8). One of whom may be a goalkeeper.
B. The maximum number of players on the roster should not exceed fourteen (14).
C. Substitutions: 1. Prior to a throw-in, in your favor. 2. Prior to a goal kick, by either team. 3. After a goal, by either team. 4. After an injury, by either team, when the Referee stops the play. 5. At half-time.
D. Playing Time: Each player SHALL play a minimum of 50% of the total playing time.
E. Teams and games may be co-ed.
Law 4 - Players Equipment
Conform to FIFA with the following exceptions:
A. Footwear: Soft-cleated soccer shoes or tennis shoes.
B. Shin-guards: USYSA recommends - mandatory.
Law 5 - The Referee
A. Registered Referee
B. Associate Referee
C. Parent/Coach or Assistant
D. Referee's decisions on points of fact connected with the game shall be final.
E. All rule infractions shall be briefly explained to the offending player.
Law 6 - Linesman
Use club linesmen.
Law 7 - Duration of the Game
A. The game shall be divided into two (2) equal halves of twenty-five (25) minutes each.
B. There shall be a half-time break of five (5) minutes.
Law 8 - The Start of Play
Conforms to FIFA with the following exception:
A. Opponents must be eight (8) yards from the center mark while kick-off is in progress.
Law 9 – The Ball in and out of Play
Conforms to FIFA.
Law 10 – Method of Scoring
Conforms to FIFA.
Law 11 – Offside
Conforms to FIFA.
Law 12 – Fouls and Misconduct
Conforms to FIFA with the following exceptions:
A. No caution or ejections shall be issued to players except by independent neutral Referee.
Law 13 – Free Kicks
Conforms to FIFA with the following exceptions:
A. Opponents must be eight (8) yards away before kick is allowed.
Law 14 – Penalty Kicks
Conforms to FIFA with the following exceptions:
A. Opponents must be eight (8) yards away before kick is allowed.
Law 15 – Throw In
Conforms to FIFA.
Law 16 – Goal Kick
Conforms to FIFA.
Law 17 – Corner Kick
Conforms to FIFA with the following exception:
A. Opponents must be eight (8) yards away from the ball.
USYSA Recommendations
Opposing parents/coaches and players should shake hands after each game.
Parents/coaches, non-playing players, parents and spectators should be located not less than six (6) yards from outside the touchline nor should they be closer than 20 yards to the goal line. No individual should be allowed to run the length of the field except participants of the game.
Parents/coaches should not coach or instruct players during game time.
No alcoholic beverages will be consumed or allowed near the playing area.
